Portal Avatar

The Project

By far, this is one of my favorite projects for Alight Solutions. The goal was to develop a single, relatable and engaging portal avatar to be used both for domestic and international users.

Requirements

 1. A single character with multiple poses.
 2. The character must be appropriate across cultures. 

 3. Allow any designer to add poses as needed.

Challenges

One of my favorite challenges about this project is the most obvious, how do I design a single character that people both from the MIddle East to the Midwest will find relatable?

My Process

I explored a wide range of character options. From robots to abstract shapes. After interviewing some of our clients it became clear a human character was the best direction.

From there, I explored a male and female pair, but business needs directed me back to a single, young female character. 

The Result

I considered every detail, from the height of the heel on her shoes to the shape of her eyes. My avatar is now used throughout the portal to guide employees, and educate them.
