Internal Video Portal
This project delivered a YouTube-like experience for the employee news portal. My unique role as both Experience Designer and Front-End Software Engineer allowed me to seamlessly design and build the complete solution.
The Challenge: Database-Free Video Management
The primary challenge was developing an efficient, scalable method for storing and managing video metadata without access to a database or back-end support. The solution also had to be simple for non-technical content editors to maintain. Key requirements included:
Video Playback: Implemented a full-featured, embeddable player with fast-forward, rewind, pause, volume, and full-screen controls.
Versatility: Delivered a stand-alone player for flexible integration across internal sites.
Discovery: Designed a robust video library featuring categories, search and suggested, related videos.
Shareability: Enabled easy internal sharing of video content among employees.
The Results: Cost Savings and Engagement
By successfully solving the challenge with a lean, database-free architecture, my solution delivered massive value:
$1,000,000+ Savings: The solution replaced an expensive commercial system that was under consideration.
50%+ Engagement Increase: Making videos shareable and available on demand led to an increase in user engagement of over 50%.
Note: This solution leveraged the same codebase I developed for the internal E-card system.
