Universal Portal Avatar
The objective was to design a single, relatable, and engaging portal avatar for both domestic and international consumers. This character functioned as a benefits guide across throughout the portal.
The Challenge: Global Relatability
The main challenge was to create a single character that resonated with a wide cultural spectrum—from the Midwest to the Middle East. The character had to be visually engaging while remaining culturally neutral.
Core Requirements
Singular Identity: A character with a unique personality, that maintains brand consistency for all clients.
Global Adaptability: Appropriate for all international markets.
Future-Proofing: Easily updated with new poses, attire, and sizes.
Process & Strategy
After examining existing brand characters, I explored a range of options from abstract shapes to people and robots. Client focus groups indicated that a human character would best achieve an emotional connection. While I originally developed a male and female pair, business requirements directed me towards a single, young female avatar.
Design Focus
My final design was crafted with attention paid to every detail—from the shape of the eyes to the absence of culturally specific attire. This intense focus ensured the character remained neutral, approachable, and versatile. This has remained one of my favorite projects.
